Art Evolution in Ace Attorney

Let it be known that this is possibly the best piece of official art ever produced for this stupid series (right next to drunk Phoenix with a tie on his head and Edgeworth making a chocolate sculpture of Phoenix based on a naked shower picture of him):

Anyway, rambling about the art evolution in GS below because I want to (and you thought the shit posting would just be contained to tumblr!)
Admittedly as I'm looking through scans of The Art of Gyakuten Saiban (which I need desperately and will never be able to find because the English version sells for $200) it's really interesting where you can see the jump in art. Like it's not really a slow build thing (honestly the artist for JFA and T&T (Iwamoto) was better than the artist for the first game but still stuck to the style), because you go from this:

to this:

And in the DS version these things are presented in the same game.
I'm very biased towards the newer style because it's more colorful and the character designs are more appealing to me... a lot of people seem to dislike the direction because the characters are becoming more outlandish but really it's something I enjoy a lot.

I could write an entire essay on why I like Ace Attorney's character design so much (versus other things....) but just seeing the art differences next to each other for the first time is very jarring for me.
One day I will pick up this book, I swear.
